Physiotherapy


 

Definition:

Physiotherapy Department was established in the year 1984, the same year when the hospital had started functioning

 

Services:

          Being an acute care hospital, bed-side physiotherapy is available for patients convalescing from major surgery or disease.

          Patients suffering from neurological conditions such as stroke, neuropathy, parkinsonism etc., are treated at bed side and later on taken to the department for further rehabilitation program. Rheumatic conditions like degenerative joint disease, inflammatory arthropathies like R.A. and other connective tissue diseases are also seen.

          Cold orthopaedic cases like O.A knees, spondylosis, arthritis etc., are treated with various electrotherapy modalities, exercise program and instructions. Post surgical physiotherapy program is being followed in cases like knee replacement, hip replacement, A.C.L. repair, arthroscopy, laminectomy etc., in coordination with orthopaedic team.

          Chest physiotherapy, pulmonary rehabilitation, pulmonary function test is carried out for the patients suffering from respiratory diseases.

          Prepare the patient for major surgery with preoperative chest physiotherapy. Post-operative physiotherapy is given to prevent respiratory and circulatory complications.

          Pre-operative assessment of the patient, routine pulmonary function test and explanation to the patient is carried out. Patient is being prepared for the surgery. Post-operatively first stage of cardiac rehabilitation is done, which includes intensive respiratory care with spirometer, PEP mask and chest physiotherapy. Gradual mobilisation of patient is done with aim to return him back to his normal daily activities.

          Chest physiotherapy and passive exercise therapy is given to the critically ill patients. On call physiotherapy is available for ICU patients and as when requested by the referring doctor.

          OUTPATIENT CLINIC:

It is on every Mondays and Wednesdays held in the department. The doctors in the physiotherapy department evaluate the referred cases as well as new cases and then direct them to the respective section of the department for the treatment.

          ELECTROTHERAPY SECTION:

A spacious area having 12 cubicles. Latest electrotherapy equipment viz. Interferential, medium frequency currents, ultrasound, short-wave, lumbar traction, wax bath, fango etc.,

          GYMNASIUM:

Fully equipped with various equipments to improve strength, range of motion, general exercise and rehabilitation.

          CEREBRAL PALSY SECTION:

Specialised set up with various gadgets to improve the abilities of physically and mentally handicapped children. Trained qualified staff is assigned to treat such cases.

          ANTEN-NATAL AND POST-NATAL:

A separate room for the expectant mother and for ladies following pregnancy. A comfortable environment for exercise program and relaxation for such cases.

          HYDROTHERAPY:

With main pool, the temperature of water is controlled. Hubbard tank for paediatric cases. Regular laboratory test of water is done to ensure germ free water.

          OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY:

A separate section within the department which is well equipped to improve the daily activities of the patients, and prepare them to lead a normal life.

          ORTHOTIC SECTION:

Ready made spinal corsets, abdominal belts, various splints, walking aids like crutches, walking stick etc., are provided to the deserving patients at nominal charges or on the deposit basis. Special splints, jackets are made from various thermoplastic materials.
