Endocrine Department


 

 

Definition:

Endocrinology is the study of hormone-producing (endocrine) glands and the diagnosis and treatment of endocrine disorders. Hormones are substance produced in very low concentration, which function in cells distant from where they are produced. The endocrine system helps to regulate the body's internal activities and responses to external events.

 

Patient Services:

          Provides a full range of services for adult patients with endocrine and metabolic diseases, including diagnosis and management of hypoglycemia and other acute complications of Diabetes, pituitary diseases, thyroid diseases, adrenal dysfunction, menstrual disorders, gonadal diseases, hirsutism and disorders of calcium metabolism.

          A full range of services for treatment of obesity, osteoporosis, diabetes, hypertension and thyroid diseases are also available.

          The resources of the Endocrine unit at Dubai Hospital are available to assist in the evaluation and treatment of patients with complex endocrine diseases.

          Combined Anterior Pituitary Function Tests

          Thyroid Ultrasound

          Fine Needle Aspiration Biopsy

          Hormonal Profiles

          Nuclear Studies

          Continuous Glucose Monitoring

          Other general medical procedures performed within the unit include:

 

- Liver Biopsy

- Ascitic Fluid Aspirate

- Lumbar Puncture

- Bone Marrow Aspirate and Biopsy
