A 630-bed hospital is contained within a 14-storey building which sits atop a two-storey base. The main building, providing for ten floors of wards, rises above a two-storey podium containing the accident and emergency units, outpatient services, treatment departments, and ancillary accommodation. The design attempts to create a building that responds to a human scale.
